Conclusion

Cryopreserved red cells are frozen and stored for up to ten years. They are available for use for 14 days after thawing. Their use for blood transfusion in this study that included 256 patients had a similar effect to standard blood transfusion: tissue oxygenation, infection and mortality rates were similar.
