Conclusion

One hundred and thirty-three patients were included. New focal brain lesions were seen in 5 per cent in the treatment and 9 per cent in controls (odds ratio 0.51, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.18 to 1.44), the death rate was 11 versus 18 per cent respectively (0.47, 0.21 to1.04).
