Conclusion
There were 95 trials for review. Tranexamic acid reduced the need for transfusion by about one third: risk ratio 0.62, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.58 to 0.65, P<0.0001. Its effects on overall mortality remain uncertain, as do its effects on potential adverse effects such as myocardial infarction or stroke.
