Conclusion

Some 1185 patients were randomly allocated abdominal wall mass closure with one of two different PDS sutures. Coating the suture with triclosan did not affect the rate of subsequent surgical site infection (14.8 versus 16.1 per cent with plain PDS, P=0.64) or serious adverse events.
