Conclusion

Six trials that included 452 patients were analysed. Enhanced recovery reduced length of hospital stay by 2.5 days (95 per cent confidence interval 1.11 to 3.92), and halved the 30-day morbidity rate (relative risk 0.52, 0.36 to 0.73), without increasing the risk of readmission.
