Conclusion

Sixteen randomized trials containing 2376 patients were included. The ERAS pathway reduced the duration of hospital stay by 2.28 days (95 per cent confidence interval 1.47 to 3.09 days), without increasing readmission rates. It also reduced overall morbidity (relative risk 0.6, 0.46 to 0.76), but mostly due to reduced non surgical complications.
