Conclusion

Six hundred patients were included and followed for at least five years. Recurrent goitre occurred least after total thyroidectomy (0.52 per cent), and most after subtotal thyroidectomy (11.5 per cent). Completion thyroidectomy was needed in 3.7 per cent of the latter group.
