Conclusion

A total of 220 children under 18 were randomized. The postoperative abscess rate was similar in children who had irrigation with at least 500ml normal saline (18.3 per cent) and in those who only had aspiration of pus (19.1 per cent), P=1.0. Duration of hospital stay was also similar.
