In this study that included nearly 3000 patients there was no evidence that the lactobacillus preparation reduced antibiotic-associated diarrhoea within eight weeks (10.8 per cent versus 10.4 per cent with placebo) or C. difficile (0.8 versus 1.2 per cent).
