Conclusion

This was a 30 year follow-up of over 46,000 participants in a faecal occult blood screening trial. Annual testing reduced colorectal-cancer related morality (relative risk 0.68, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.56 to 0.82), as did biennial testing (0.78, 0.65 to 0.93), but neither had any significant effect on overall mortality.
