Conclusion

There were five randomized trials and one controlled clinical trial. Fast track surgery reduced duration of hospital stay by 2 days (95 per cent confidence interval 1.3 to 2.69 days, P<0.00001) and thus hospital costs, without increasing the rate of complications.
