Conclusion

Some 518 patients with proximal deep vein thrombosis compliant with stockings for one year and free from post thrombotic syndrome (PTS) were included. Rates of PTS at two years were 19.9 per cent if stockings were stopped, compared to 13 per cent if continued (non-inferiority not reached). Number needed to treat was 14.
