Conclusion

This study included 210 patients randomly allocated to 2h of 80 per cent oxygen postoperatively. This reduced the rate of surgical site infection from 13.6 to 5.6 per cent (P=0.04), and also the duration of hospital stay: 2.92 to 2.51 days (P=0.01).
