Conclusion

Overall survival at ten years in this study that included 799 patients was 59.6 per cent after preoperative and 59.9 per cent after postoperative radiotherapy. The rates of distant metastases were similar, but the preoperative radiotherapy regimen improved the rate of local control: relapse rate 7.1 versus 10.1 per cent; P=0.048.
