Conclusion

A total of 60 patients had at least five days enteral feeding. Glutamine addition reduced the risk of pneumonia (17 per cent versus 45 per cent, p<0.02), bacteraemia (7 per cent versus 42 per cent, p<0.005) and sepsis (4 per cent versus 26 per cent, p<0.02)
