Conclusion

Some 210 procedures in women were included. Use of the nerve monitor reduced the rate of significant postoperative voice dysfunction from 10 to 2 per cent (P=0.018), and the rate of temporary recurrent laryngeal nerve dysfunction from 2 to 1 per cent (P=0.56).
