Conclusion

Only 69 patients (10 per cent of those screened for eligibility) were randomized, highlighting the difficulty of this type of study. Weight loss was greatest with gastric bypass (27 per cent) compared to gastric banding (17.3 per cent), and least after lifestyle intervention (10.2 per cent).
