Conclusion

Of 53 patients randomized, 30 were available for analysis. Subsequent abdominal closure was possible in 14 patients who had the sequential fascial suture method, compared to only six who had vacuum closure alone (P=0.005), with commensurate reduction in hospital stay: 12 vs. 18 days, P=0.0001.
