Conclusion
Vonapanitase is a recombinant human elastase applied topically after fistula formation; its value in improving patency of dialysis fistulas was studied in 311 patients. Whilst primary patency at 12 months was not improved (42 per cent versus 31 per cent for placebo; P=0.25), secondary patency was better (74 versus 61 per cent, respectively; P=0.045).
