Conclusion

Four RCTs with 286 participants were included. There was a significantly lower fistula failure rate in patients who had the procedure under regional anaesthesia (12/143) compared to procedures under local anaesthesia (36/143): odds ratio 0.28, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.14 to 0.57.
