Conclusion

Some 480 patients were studied and followed for two years. The rate of incisional hernia was lowest in those randomized to only mesh (13 per cent) compared to sublay mesh (18 per cent) or sutures (30 per cent). Wound infection rates were similar, but seroma was more frequent after onlay mesh.
