Conclusion

One hundred and twenty-one patients were included. Early cannulation of the grafts was associated with a lower rate of bacteraemia (3.3 versus 16.4 per cent, P=0.02) and fewer deaths (5 versus 16 per cent, P=0.04), but costs were similar.
