Conclusion

There were 23 studies consisting of 2099 patients in the analysis. Goal-directed therapy reduced morbidity rates (risk ratio 0.76, 95 per cent confidence interval 0.66 to 0.89, P=0.0007) and duration of hospital stay (mean difference -1.55 days, P=0.01). The differences disappeared in patients treated in an ERAS programme.
