Conclusion

Some 516 patients were included. The addition of a 24h infusion of levosimendan to standard treatment for sepsis did not alter sequential organ failure assessment (SOFA) scores, or reduce the 28 day mortality rate: 34.5 per cent versus 30.9 per cent in controls.
